This summer's School Age Child Care (SACC) program is in full swing at seven elementary campuses through Aug. 13. Children ages 5 to 11 can still join in on the fun which includes bowling, swimming, visits to the zoo, special guest presentations and more.

Ten recent graduates represented Comal ISD during two annual All-Star games this summer. Two were selected for the 5A/6A Elite All-Star state game on June 20, and eight were selected for the San Antonio area All-Star game on June 21.

In the absence of an annual retirement banquet, Comal ISD would like to recognize the 54 employees who have served the district as teachers, bus drivers, counselors, custodians and more. Each has made a difference in the lives of students, parents and the community.

FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) offers students opportunities to gain leadership skills, and one Smithson Valley student competed among the best leaders for the FIRST Dean's List Award.

Brothers at Smithson Valley High School not only qualified to participate in this year's National Cyber Scholarship Competition, they also earned distinctions for their abilities. The competition was steep and the puzzles and challenges were difficult, but with their skills and talent, they persevered.

A Canyon Lake High School student engineering team competed virtually in the 2021 Autonomous Innovative Vehicle Design Challenge and won three awards for its entry.

The Exceptional Senior Award honors students who have consistently displayed high levels of character, leadership, integrity and diligence. The award is in its second year and is presented to seniors across Texas' 21st Congressional District.

For 20 years Comal ISD has honored the top graduating seniors from each of its high schools with a special academic recognition banquet. The 2021 honorees along with their chosen mentor teachers were honored once again with a banquet, but instead of one banquet, the district hosted four.

Being ranked in the top 5, 10 or 15 percent of the graduating class is not an easy feat. That's why Comal ISD students who earn this ranking are celebrated and honored. Here's a list of the 2021 honor students.

Four Comal ISD students from the Class of 2021 were National Merit Finalists this year, and one was a National Merit Scholarship Winner. This places these graduates among the top 1 percent of 1.5 million students.
