UPDATE: After-School Aide Recognized For Going The Extra Mile Update: One of Ms. Mary's former students is now a producer at KSAT 12 News. She stopped by Freiheit Elementary recently to feature her on air. Known as "Ms. Mary" to her students and their parents in the School Age Child Care (SACC) program, Mary Gomez was surprised with Comal ISD's '590' award for customer service. For 20 years, she has gone above and beyond as an after-school aide, and no one is more deserving of the honor.
Comal ISD Music Program Receives National Recognition for 4th Consecutive Year For the fourth year in a row, Comal ISD's music program has received the Best Communities for Music Education designation. This designation is awarded to school districts that demonstrate outstanding achievement in efforts to provide music access and education to all students.
Third Annual 9/11 Stair Climb Honors First Responders For the third year in a row, the JROTC at Pieper High School hosted a 9/11 Stair Climb to honor the first responders who lost their lives on Sept. 11, 2001. More than 150 students, staff members and parents joined local first responders including firefighters to climb 2,071 stairs signifying the 110 flights of the World Trade Center's towers.
Comal ISD Visual Arts Program Named District of Distinction For 5th Consecutive Year For the fifth year in row, Comal ISD's visual arts program has been named a District of Distinction by the Texas Art Education Association. This award recognizes the district and its educators for encouraging creativity, community participation and student growth.

State Honorees from Smithson Valley High School Golf Program Recognized The Smithson Valley High School golf program ended the 2022-2023 season with a silver medal for the boys team and an individual bronze medal for the girls. Both competed in the UIL 5A State tournament. These state honorees were recognized at the Aug. 24 Board of Trustees meeting for their achievements.

Comal ISD Bass Fishing Club Continues To Catch Honors The Comal ISD Bass Fishing Club ended its season once more as the Hill Country Region School District Champion with six anglers advancing to the state tournament. The club is part of the district's Intramural Sports program and is open to all high school students.
Comal ISD Hosts Final Signing Days for Seven Student Athletes Three Comal ISD high school campuses hosted final signing days for seven student athletes who will play the sport of their choice at the collegiate level. Students from Canyon High, Canyon Lake High and Smithson Valley High will pursue their dreams to play baseball, run track, golf and cheer.
