Helping Holiday Wishes Come True

This year the Bulverde/Spring Branch Angels will make the dreams of more than 420 kids come true this holiday season. With 15 decorated trees spread across the Bulverde/Spring Branch community including several at Comal ISD schools, the Angels will give kids from birth to 18 years of age a reason to smile this year with gifts under their trees.

Founder of the community service organization, Cindy Hurst, a retired Comal ISD school counselor, explained that the Angels have been serving the Bulverde/Spring Branch community under the umbrella of the Spring Branch Bulverde Family Lions Club for the last three years.

Last year, the Angels provided gifts for 125 families in the area, and this year it will support 172 families. The Angels receive a wish list for every child based on their needs and their wants. Each child is given two gifts based on their needs such as shoes or coats and two gifts based on their wants such as sporting goods and dolls.

Currently, the Angels need donations of wishes (pick up a wish ornament from any of the tree locations listed on their website), small and medium holiday gift bags and volunteers to wrap gifts being collected by the Lions Club. Gift wrappers are needed 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Dec. 13-18, at an empty lease space donated by the owner at 121 Bulverde Crossing, near the Bulverde Spring Branch Chamber of Commerce.

Comal ISD schools with trees include Specht Elementary, Indian Springs Elementary, Johnson Ranch Elementary, Pieper Ranch Middle and Smithson Valley High School. The ornaments on these trees represent children from that campus along with their siblings. Other schools are involved in supporting the Angels through various events. For example, Timberwood Park Elementary hosts a pajama drive during its Red Ribbon Week as well as a wrapping paper drive, Bill Brown Elementary’s student council has hosting a blanket drive and various student organizations at the high school-level host campaigns which assist in getting more gifts to those in need.
