Davenport High School Cheer Team Earns Silver at State Competition

February 27, 2026 - The Davenport High School cheer team earned the silver medal once more at the UIL 4A Division 1 Spirit State Championship in January, also winning the Band Chant category.

“We are so proud of what we have accomplished this year,” says DHS head cheer coach Evelyn Fallon. “Our motto is ‘By Us, For Us’ because what we put on the mat, is created by the team and every single member matters and plays a role in its success.”

The back-to-back silver medals inspire them to continue to work hard, looking to win gold in 2027. The team, which consists of 21 varsity athletes, nine junior varsity, two mascots and one manager, practices 10 to 14 hours a week during competition season, says Fallon who works with assistant coach Ashley Lane.

The work has paid off. This year, the team was the NCA region champion in both small game day and crowd leading divisions but was unable to compete at the national championship due to bad weather which cancelled the competition.

“In addition to competitions, we do our best to support our campus groups at games, events and pep rallies,” Fallon says.

Joining the DHS team at this year’s Spirit State Championship were cheer teams from Comal ISD’s four other comprehensive high schools including Canyon, Canyon Lake, Pieper and Smithson Valley. All teams advanced to the final round of competition in their divisions.
