Spring Sports Athletes Honored for State Awards

May 20, 2022- The Comal Independent School District Board of Trustees recognized high school athletes who qualified for this year’s state competition in their spring sport including golf, track, powerlifting and tennis at its regular monthly board meeting on May 19.

In fact, 27 athletes were honored. Among them were three gold medalists including Alencia Lentz, who is the State UIL Class 4A pole vault champion from Canyon Lake High School clearing 13-feet, 6-inches and setting a new state record; Kiana van Haaren, the State UIL Class 4A long jump champion from Davenport High School with a jump of 19-feet, 8-inches; and Caroline Peterson, the State UIL 4A high jump champion from Pieper High School, a freshman who has made school history as its first state champion with a 5-foot, 6-inch jump.

There were also six silver medal recognitions including the girls Smithson Valley High School 1600-meter relay which won the silver medal for the State UIL Class 6A. Members of the relay team include Alyssa Jones, Mia Perez, Jazmyn Singh and Favour Uduji. Two athletes won silver medals in powerlifting including Lauren Gomez from Canyon High School who won the silver medal in the State UIL Class 5A, 148-weight class and Lily Falcone from Davenport High who won the silver medal in the State UIL Class 4A competition.

Rounding out those who brought home hardware from state competitions is Masyn McKinley from Davenport High who won the bronze medal in the State UIL Class 4A tennis competition.
