Specht Elementary Teacher Named KSAT 12 Educator of the Month for April

April 6, 2022 - This month’s KSAT 12 Educator of the Month is a first-grade teacher from Specht Elementary in Comal ISD.

With 20 years of experience in education and four years as a teacher, Heather Sammis has found her calling as a first-grade teacher.

“First graders are amazing,” Sammis says. “They are my jam!”

It’s easy to see that those amazing students think the same about their amazing teacher. In fact, Sammis’ nomination for the KSAT 12 Educator of the Month award highlights the reasons she was chosen.

The nomination reads in part, “Her passion for teaching and care for her students is always evident in her interactions with students and parents alike. She recognizes that students are individuals and works to provide instruction that facilitates learning for everyone.”

Sponsored by KSAT 12 and Firstmark Credit Union, the Educator of the Month receives a $500 Visa gift card presented by Firstmark as well as a trophy with the educator’s name inscribed on it.

“I appreciate whoever nominated me,” Sammis say. “It is very rewarding and makes my heart grow.”

Congratulations Ms. Sammis!
